Hi! As we mentioned in a previous response, the desert isn't meant to be a setting for threads. Characters can reach the edge of it, but can't cross it or get very far before getting turned around and returning to Duplicity. The roads that access it are currently blocked. It's only shown on the map to make sense of the geography from an old event where characters were removed from the city and eventually had to return on foot.
